I was hoping to hint at the stage-based use of the phrase, indeed.
You (Dan) probably won’t be surprised that I used my (weak) imitation of the Chevy-Chase pratfall at the beginning of my talk. It was pretty much the full-on version, the one with a fistful of papers tossed into the air as I descended the steps from the stage and fell to the floor. (I skipped doing push ups while on the floor….)
I think this time was something like the 6th time I’ve done the routine at the beginning of a talk…and I think it will be the last (though I came through it uninjured). I probably won’t ever have another opportunity in my career to do it.
I did get a great glimpse of how kind this DI community is. A half dozen people—including luminaries—raced to the front to help me.
I warned the camera operator, so the pratfall should be on the video of the talk.
Looking forward to seeing the talk, as well as the pratfall. Your opening reminds me of one I saw Paynedini do a couple of times. If you don't know it, remind me to tell you next time we talk.
Congrats for being selected to give speech at DI Conference. Quite an honor, bro. If it's recorded, pls do send a link.
Thanks, Dan. I hope I don’t take after Ed. K. and break a leg.
Well, on the other hand, an idiom for on-stage performers is "break a leg."
