A tease for an article entitled “How American Schools of Education Burked* Education in America’s Schools” fell into my mailbox. I got the flier because I have been following The Skeptics Society1 for 40-some years (at least), so my address is one the mailing list…I have only myself to blame.

In his editorial of 7 October 2025, “How American Schools of Education Burked* Education in America’s Schools,” Robert Maranto argued that long-standing streaks of anti-intellectualism evident in colleges and schools of education at universities (i.e., “ed schools”) have resulted in elevation of leaders who have wrong-headed interests in education, dumbing down of education, and championing of mediocre methods as well as fads and fallacies…and (generally) failed America.
