Laura McKenna provides a parent's perspective on autism
Want a glimpse of what it's like to raise a son with autism?
As I’ve mentioned previously (for examples, see here and here), Laura McKenna pubishes a Substack recounting her experiences as the mother of a son who has autism. Ian is making the transition from K-12 education to post-secondary education, and her previous reports about that trasition over on the Great Leap are informative.
In October of 2022, though, she began a series of posts recounting Ian’s development. What she’s provided is, of course, a first-person, case report, making it quite much in the qualitative realm. Still, even if one might not get the unequivocal direction for practice that one can garner from high-quality experimental research, she is providing valuable insights into the reality that parents and families, experience.
