Yay, CODA!
Do you like the idea that a popular culture source portrays disability pretty dang authentically?
I’m way pleased to learn that CODA, the movie that focuses on a family of both deaf and hearing people, has won the Oscar for “best picture!” I referred to this movie a few months ago when it went into wide realease. People with actual disabilities play major roles.
The LATimes has a nice feature about the Oscar win. I bet there are other features in movie-industry publications. (Please feel free to refer to them in the comments!)
As many friends will know, I don’t follow entertainment news much at all. But this story merits a sit-up-straight-and-pay-attention moment!
(Those friends will also know that I was happy to hear one of my favorite flatulence jokes incorporated into the film.)
