What explicit instruction isn't
Have you heard some of these criticisms of direct instruction?
Over on her ‘stack, The Disruptive Educator, Caiti Wade published a take down of some familiar objections to explicit, systematic—dare I say, “direct?”—instruction. In her post, “nobody is saying that: the explicit instruction strawman: Why misrepresenting effective practice and fighting strawmen helps no one,” the (only somewhat patiently) explained how dismissal of explicit instruction with phrases such as “I already do that” can be logically discounted.

Caiti’s post is clear, direct, and explicit. Highly recommended. Not only will you, Dear Readers, likely find it enlightening but you’ll also likely find it enjoyable.

Yep. Same old. Same old. Explicit instruction is just drill and kill.
