US readers: Call your elected representatives today
CEC encouraged US citizens to call legislators to keep special education programs housed in the Department of Education.
Dear US readers,
Please call your elected representatives today 5 March 2026 and tell them you believe that the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation, the Office of Special Education, and the special education functions should continue to be a part of the US Department of Education. Participate in the “National Call Day Opposing Moving IDEA out of the U.S. Department of Education!”
A mailer from CEC’s Division for Leaders & Legacy provided these directions:
Please plan on calling your U.S. House Representative and two U.S. Senators that represent you on March 5, 2026. Please call anytime between 9 am and 5 pm eastern time on March 5, 2026. When you call, please urge them to tell the U.S. Department of Education not to move special education programs such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) out of the Education Department.

Yes, this is a baldly obvious request for political action by Dear Readers of Special Education Today. I don’t mean it as any sort of common us-v-them politics; it’s not even red-v-blue (or vice-versa). It’s a request for civic engagement, regardless of one’s or one’s legislator’s political party stripe. See the SET article from 4 March 2026 entitled “Advocacy organizations promote public lobbying to protect US ED” for additional information.
I am opening the comments on this post. You do not need to be a subscriber to comment. Please take advantage of the opportunity to comment by letting the SET community that you have called.
