The early birds
Whom am I celebrating at this time of year?
After almost a year of publishing Special Education Today at no cost to readers, on 25 April 2022, I announced that SET was opening a paid subscription option. The announcement appeared in the weekly newsletters published that date. Here’s a link to that post that includes the image of the week:
In the commentary section of that post (I called it “notes” then), I wrote this:
In the coming weeks, I’ll launch a paid side to SET. I’m going to ask subscribers to contribute $6 a month. Subscribers will have access to all the content of SET. They will also have access to premium content (i.e., posts that are not available to the free subscribers). The subscriber-only content will probably include longer form posts about practice and policy.
The basic subscription plan ($6 a month) will also have an annual alternative. Instead of dropping $72 over 12 months one month at a time, subscribers can opt for a $60 per year subscription, a savings of > 16%.
To my surprise (and delight) some. Dear Readers initiated paid subscriptions right away. Within 24 hours, Bob P., Ed P., Clay K., Joel M., Dan H., and Christine T. initiated subscriptions.1 Those are our Pioneers! 2
Those pioneers are still with us here in the SET community and I’d like to acknowledge and thank them for their readership. I’d also like to express my appreciation for the support they have provided through back channels, sending me notes about typos, ideas for posts, kind comments, and more. Hey, Bob, Christine, Clay, Dan, Ed, and Joel, it’s wonderful to have had you along for all these years.
Stay tuned. The five-year anniversary of SET is coming soon!
Footnotes
There were surely others who started subs at that time, too, but their payments stopped or had to be updated. If you are among those early adopters, thanks!
One can usually identify pioneers, because they are the ones with wounds in their backs. Teehee.
