"Greetings and salutations" comes from E. B. White's Charlotte's Web. It's spoken first by Charlotte the spider to Wilbur the pig early in the book. It's used again towards the end of the story when one of Charlotte's daughters uses the same greeting to Wilbur.
Yes, thanks, Clay. I was aware of the use in Charlotte's Web. Perhaps it's me conflating something else from my experience with the use in Charlotte's Web, but I have this nagging memory of some Hanna-Barbera (Looney Tunes?) character saying it, too. I spent probably an hour searching when I was working on the post, but found nothing. Sigh

I think it was a Looney Tunes character too.
Sylvester.
Someone even worse than Sylvester!
Yes - they did have sabre teeth.
Wil E. Coyote.
[and aren't Looney Tunes people and animals from Warner Brothers?]
[or they were for most of my lifetime].
