In the early afternoon of 15 October 2026 in Bend, Oregon, Griffen A. John, II, entered a special education classroom at Silver Rail Elementary School armed with a gun. There he shot and killed Megan Lambert, a teacher, and three students, including Rhoam Summer (age 5) and two others ages 8 and 11. Another teacher, Becky Drury, and another student age 7 were injured.
A teacher threw her cell phone at the shooter and tackled him, according to news reports. The shooter, who had previously been a special education student at the school, was identified as a 16-year-old.
Ms. Drury, aged 54, was another teacher at the school who was involved; she was seriously injured. I believe that a third teacher may also have been involved, but she was not injured.
