If, Dear Readers, you have not tuned into the 29 October 2026 release of Sold a Story, you may be behind the times. Here’s a link:
In this episode, #4, Emily Hanford tells the story of Wesley Elementary School in Houston. At that school, which served children from impoverished neighborhoods, dedicated educators implemented Direct Instruction with great success. In this episode, she tells how successful the whole school implementation was over multiple years with multiple cohorts of children. She explained that the children were doing so well that outsiders said they must be cheating, but they were not. She provided interviews following up with students and teachers.
The SaS2 team has more than just the podcast episode. Check out, for example, “Direct Instruction is controversial — but not among teachers who use it,” by Christopher Peak and Carmela Guaglianone.
