Senate committee hearing of 30 July 2026 on special education
What happened in these hearings?
On 30 July 2026, US senators who were members of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions discussed and voted on matters related to special education. Although some of the matters considered by the committee were not of particular interest to the special education and disabilities community, two were of particular concern:
The committee voted to report S 5046 to the full Senate. This bill will prohibit the transfer of certain offices and functions of the Department of Education to other Federal agencies, and for other purposes
The committee voted to report S. 3010, 21st Century Dyslexia Act to the full. Senate: “A BILL To amend the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act to improve provisions relating to dyslexia, and for other purposes.”

Just a light note: Senator and Chair Cassidy fell back on an old (and discredited trope) when he transposed digits in the numerical designation of one of the bills, saying his dyslexia came to the fore. His quip got a few chuckles.
