Proposed US funding of special education
What is the Biden-Harris administration proposing?
According to the “Washington Update” from the Teacher Education Division of the Council for Exceptional Children, the US executive offices have recommended substantial funding increases for support of teacher education in the US. In the message that was sent by Kaitlyn Brennan, “Kait” (@brennam_kait) noted the overall budget proposal for the US Department of Education.
Ms. Kait emphasized the increased funds for preparation of special educators.
• $250 million for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part D – Personnel Preparation program (IDEA-D-PP).
Key Programs Related to Educator Support and Preparation
For those of us who would like to have additional special educators and more well-prepared special educational professionals, this is quite good news. We need personnel who have knowledge and skills to help our kids! Yay!
And folks should recognize that this is not a partisan issue. People of any political stripe can have a child with a disability—liberal…conservative..libertarian…Aussie…Nigerian…Brazilian…christian…atheist…poor…or rich—anyone can have a child with a disability.
I’m supporting this US effort (and similar ones). Come on people. Let’s get together. We need to work together to help kids with disabilities.
