Here’s the fourth1 in the series of posts about the beverage mugs from which I drink my coffee. A lot of coffee gets consumed here at Special Education Today central.
This photo of a mug on my desk shows another cup with some built-in ambiguity. What is that “DR?” The explanation lies in the other writing on the mug surface. “DR” stands for the “Division for Research” of the Council for Exceptional Children
The back story for this mug is that I received it as an award when CEC-DR held a celebration of its 10 anniversary. As I recall, Russell Gersten (who was president of CEC-DR a few years after I had been president) arranged to distribute mugs to the first 10 presidents during a ceremony at the reception. To indicate their significance, Russell had “Prez” stenciled onto the reverse side from the side shown in the present photo.2
Observant readers will note that the photo of this mug is replete with lots of cookie crumbs (an endangered product at SET central) and a few treats for cats (back right past the handle) that help other denizens of the office learn tricks.
Yours, sincerely,
Once a Prez

Mayhaps I’ll post the obverse of this photo one day.
