The Learning Disabilities Association of America announced its Healthy Children Project. In collaboration with the Children's Environmental Health Network, LDA is providing information and guidance for families about environmental factors that threaten children’s health.
LDA believes all children deserve healthy places to live, learn, play and grow. That’s why our Healthy Children Project (HCP) reduces pregnant women and children’s exposure to chemicals that harm brain health by advocating for safer products, food, water and air. We also share the latest tips on how to protect your family from harmful chemicals.
LDA and CEHN hope to reduce exposure to environmental toxins among pregnant women and young children. More specifically, they created the project to
raise awareness of toxic chemicals that can harm brain development, contributing to learning disabilities and behavior disorders.
promote policies and provide guidance to prevent toxic chemical exposures, especially among pregnant women and children.
build a nationwide network of LDA members working to protect children’s health and reduce toxic exposures that may lead to learning disabilities in current and future generations.
Although the initiative appears to be more circumspect than the sometimes-bonkers claims and recommendations one can find on Intertube resources about environmental toxins (and, indeed, sometimes promulgated by some in the Trump administration), readers will need to review the contents thoroughly. Among the valuable recommendations, one can find lots of references to scientific literature. There are less-than-trustworthy voices in the environmental risk space, and we expect that LDA will help to focus on those that merit confidence.
