Dear Kurt,
I was pleased to see that you are bringing your knowledge and expertise about Direct Instruction to Substack. I enjoyed reading these first couple of posts:
Some readers of Special Education Today will be aware of your work, because they have seen posts here in the past (a few paragraphs about your excellent book, Direct Instruction: A practitioner’s handbook on 10 February 2024, a link to the Webinar on reading comprehension you disseminated 14 April 2026, and others) and because of the contributions of you and your colleagues at the National Institute for Direct Instruction.
I am be eager to see what you publish in future posts. Indeed, I noticed you mentioned the publication by your father and Geoff Colvin, Rubric for Identifying Authentic Direct Instruction Programs. It would be wonderful if you could provide a concise summary of the guidance from that piece, as I think it would be quite helpful for readers to know how to tell the difference between the many variants on little di that have been floated on the Intertubes and what the real things look like.
I also look forward to seeing how you develop the Web presence of your site. Lots of folks will, I suspect want to visit it!
Welcome to the neighborhood!
JohnL
