For readers who are interested in data about educational services for individuals with disabilities in the US, the 43rd Annual Report to Congress on the Implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, 2021 has been published.

Section 664(d) of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as reauthorized in 2004, requires that the Department of Education report annually on the progress made toward the provision of a free appropriate public education to all children with disabilities and the provision of early intervention services to infants and toddlers with disabilities.

Many readers will be familiar with the annual reports, because they are the source of child count data. Those data help answer myriad questions. How many children have been identified as needing special education in the US? The answers to more specific questions (examples: How many in individual states? How many of what age? How many with a specific disability?) are there, too. But there are many other features, too. For example, there are two sections that summarize (a) research funded un the National Center for Special Education Research and (b) studies conducted by the US Department of Education about provision of free and appropriate education and early intervention.

Follow the link in the first paragraph to land on the Report’s home page.

Flash of the electrons to Ed. P. for circulating an alert about the 2021 Report a few days ago.
