Friday photos: D. Ramer and P. Weiss together at CEC conf
Where have these people been seen together before?
Margaret P. Weiss and Debbie (“Deborah A.”)1 Ramer got into the range of Special Education Today’s camera in Salt Lake City (UT) at the annual convention of the Council for Exceptional Children for 2026. Snap! Got ‘em…and here they are on SET’s Friday Photos!
Peggy and Debbie have been pals for quite a while. They were graduate students at the same time in the 1990s at the University of Virginia before pursuing their paths through the profession. It’s quite understandable that they seem to be enjoying connecting again in this photo. Each served as student representative to the Division for Learning Disabilities (TeachingLD) and have contributed to many other professional organizations since then.
Peggy (AKA “Margaret”) is a member of the faculty for George Mason University (VA). She is an accomplished scholar and teacher educator. Not only has she reported studies about co-teaching, interventions, and technology, but she has served as an officer for both the Division for Learning Disabilities and the Teacher Education Division of the Council for Exceptional Children, but she has collaborated with many local education agencies and others on policy and practice. She is particularly well known for her work on co-teaching.
Debbie is on the faculty at William & Mary University in Virginia (US). She has devoted her efforts to disseminating evidence-based practice in reading and special education. Her extensive work with supporting the implementation of research-based practices is reflected in the contributions of the Training and Technical Assistance Center and the Literacy Lab at Bill and Mary. Her work has led to many awards and honors.
Both of these contributors to the improvement of education and outcomes for our kids can be found around SETland. Not only that, but (no surprise) we have known them for decades, and we can vouch for the fact that they are good people (and they didn’t pay us to write that). We recommend that readers of SET keep up with Debbie and Peggy.
Footnote
We’re joking-teasing a bit here. Debbie goes by “Debbie” in her professional life, but that name is of course a diminutive for her birth name. No disrespect intended.
