Who gave a fab keynote at TECBD?
For the 2022 keynote address at the meeting of Teacher Educators for Children with Behavior Disorders, Melody Tankersley spoke to a crowd of 100s of conference attendees about “What LeBron James Taught Me about Supporting Youth with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders.” In her work at Kent State University, she has has worked closely with Mr. James on the efforts he and the LeBron James Family Foundation have made to help 100s and 100s of children thrive in school. Here’s the abstract:
I have worked with and/or for youth with emotional and behavioral disorders, their families, and their teachers for more than 35 years. During this time I have advocated for the use of, and have implemented, research-based practices that I have learned from the giants in our field. So as I began working with the LeBron James Family Foundation’s I Promise School, I was impressed with their focus on the implementation of research-based practices at a community level for students with emotional and behavioral disorders and their families. In this address, I present several approaches to community-level support that been successful with the students and their families in the I Promise School and connect them to contemporary research
Because of her connection with us, after her talk Melody agreed to have a photo with Jim Kauffman and me.
