Friday catch-up notes—17 July 2026
What stories didn't become full posts this week?
Editor’s note: This post contains snippets about stories, resources, and observations that the SET authors didn’t quite have time to develop into full-blown posts over the past week. I’m hoping we can catch up with our in-boxes. We didn’t want you, Dear Readers, to miss them. Some of them may later appear as a part (or parcel) of a full-blown post.—JohnL

On 30 June 2026, a group of US Senators issued a press release requesting that the Donald Trump administration stop activities to change special education enforcement. Read the press release, entitled “Murray, Baldwin, Sanders Lead All Senate Democrats in Demanding Trump Halt Illegal Move to Undermine Special Ed, Civil Rights Enforcement.” See also Kuna Tavalin’s 10 July 2026 post for the Council for Exceptional Children calling for action by special educators on this matter.
In a study published 9 March 2026 in JAMA Pediatrics (sorry I’m slow catching it!), Pei-Chen Lee, Yu-Hsuan Chuang, Chia-Ni Lin, PhD1; Chung-Yi Li, Ying-Yeh Chen, Julia E. Heck, Giselle Bellia, Haoran Zhuo, Onyebuchi A. Arah, and Zeyan Liew (affiliated with institutions in Taiwan and the US) reported that across 2 million births there was no connection between exposure to acetaminophen during pregnancy and ADHD and autism among offspring. See the original article, “Maternal Acetaminophen Use and Child Neurodevelopment.”
Over on Disability Scoop, Michelle Diament published a story 16 July 2026 about the Trump Administration denying RSA 504 rights and posing a threat to people’s right to seek redress for violations more generally. Read her article, White House Wants To Make It Harder For People With Disabilities To Sue Federal Agencies.
Over on Voices from the Field, Elana Gordon published the first in a multi-part series of posts about multi-tiered systems of support appeared. It’s at “Connecting the Dots: A Series on Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) at my School: A mini-series: Introduction and Teaming Structures.”
