The DREAM Center, a project supported by the US Office of Special Education, solicited application for teams of teacher educators from historically black colleges and universities, tribal colleges, and other minority serving institutions of higher education for a workshop on preparing proposals for grants to support teacher preparation programs. The workshop is in October 2026 and applications are due 31 August 2026. The center does not seem to have a persistent Web page about the workshop; it is using a Qualtrics survey to allow applications. Contact support@dreamtacenter.org.
In the weekly LD Source from Learning Disabilities Association of America Kayla Boehler published a batch of informative stories, including on linguistic phonics, deregulation of Head Start, New York City special education services, and other topics. I think that the Web version of LD Source is accessible publicly. One might need navigate to it via the LDA Web site.
Over on Ed Week, Caitlynn Peetz Stephens posted “The Differences Between IEPs and 504 Plans: A Special Education Explainer” on 13 August 2026. For readers of Special Education Today, the article will likely be a little pedestrian, but it provides a little guidance; it does show us what sort of information the general pubic is getting about special education. It merits a read to help us understand what an inquiring neighbor, parent, or other lay person might think about special education…and one of Ms. Stephens’s experts (Nate S.) is a long-time resident on our little island!
