Over on The 74, Nirvi Shah reported about an effort to revitalize a small southern city’s economic situation that has lots of political and financial momentum. In “A Big Gamble on Revamping Petersburg’s Schools Fuels Hope in Virginia City
For years, the district was among the state’s worst. A $447 million investment has sparked a sense of being ‘on the move, slowly but surely,’ readers can that the efforts haven’t moved the proverbial needle in education. Although efforts to provide free before- and after-school care, playgrounds, build relationships, and more are nice, unless one addressed instruction, those efforts are not likely to change student’ outcome appreciably.
With reference to the US celebration of its anniversary, Kris Burbank posted a notes about “Celebrating Independence” on the blog at her site. There’s a bit of content about opportunities for her consulting business, but there are a couple of valuable observations before them.
