Sally Bergquist, a long-time teacher and consultant (and long-time reader of Special Education Today), launched a new ‘stack about effective writing instruction for primary grade students. She is calling it “The K-2 Writing Corner,” and that appeals to me (but you can also call it “SallyBergquist.stubstack.com” as that is the URL).
The first post, published 21 September 2026, is called “A new spotlight on a normally backstage topic.” Here is how Sally started that post:
Confident writing starts with good foundational skills, which many kids never get.
Foundations start at the earliest grade levels. Every middle, high school and college teacher who expects students to write something should be out advocating great teaching in K-2! Why? Because this foundation will have a direct effect on student writing skills by the time they get to those later classrooms.
Writing gets little attention in comparison to other subjects, and K-2 writing almost none at all.
Sally went on to explain more about these concerns and then to list the topics about which she plans to write in her future posts. They sound very sensible and practical, so I’m registering to receive her articles. She promised to publish one article a month, so we won’t be overwhelmed.
