Horizon, the magazine sponsored by the European Union's research group, published an article calling attention to groups that are vulnerable to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Among the groups, as most of us concerned about them won’t be surprised to learn, was individuals with disabilities. In "How vulnerable groups were left behind in pandemic response," Horizon reporter Richard Gray surveyed the many vulnerable groups, including those with disabilities.

Here is a relevant segment from his report in which one of his sources mentions "intellectual and learning disabilities" (remember that in the U.K. the term “learning disability” is often used to refer to individuals in the U.S. whom we would refer to as having “intellectual disability):

One group that has been particularly hard hit by the virus are those with learning disabilities. In some countries, such as the UK, death rates among people with learning disabilities were six times higher than in the general population in the first wave of coronavirus.

"In the data we have today, there is good evidence that people with disabilities and especially those with intellectual and learning disabilities, are being quite badly hit by Covid-19," said Dr Jessica Dimka, a biological anthropologist at Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway.

Mr. Gray included additional paragraphs relevant to disabilities in his story for Horizon.
