Epidemiological examination of children's mental health in COVID times
What can some well-informed scientists tell us about this topic?
Over on Your Local Epidemiologist, Katelyn Jetelina and Rebecca J. Molsberry published a column that I suspect readers of Special Education Today will find worthwhile. Under the heading “Our Youth are Stuggling with Mental Health,” the authors provide a data-based discussion about the current topic of children’s mental health in the times of SARs-CoV-19.
They provide context for the discussion by examining the already substantial level of mental health issues that existed prior to COVID-19. They show data indicating changes in mental health (e.g., suicides among children and young adults) over time. They recount recommendations such as those promoted by the US Department of Education. There’s lots more.
This is, simply put, an excellent quick look at the topic. Highly recommended.
