Dive in to DiveIn
What has been happening on the Division for Research podcast?
Over the first three episodes for 2026 of DiveIn,1 a podcast sponsored by the Division for Research of the Council for Exceptional Children, host Professor Federico R. Waitoller held conversations about the matter of disproportionality in special education. He has welcomed eminent authorities on the topic to offer alternative views about it, resulting in a multi-part series. Here is a list of episodes, including the one that served as a launching point for the 2026 series of three:
IDEA at 50: Is Policy Compliance Enough to Address Disproportionality? (with Catherine Voulgarides, 1 December 2025),
The Disproportionality Series Part 1 A Conversation with Paul Morgan (8 January 2026),
The Disproportionality Series Part 2: A Conversation with Rachel Fish (3 February 2026), and
The Disproportionality Series Part 3: A Conversation with Donna Ford (8 March 2026).
For those who have followed the discussions about disproportionality, the guests that Professor Waitoller interviewed have immediately recognizable names. They have been among the big players in the field…and that means that there is some juicy “inside baseball” in the discussions, too.
Professor Waitoller, who is a professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago, launched DiveIn May 2023 with an interview with friend of Special Education Today, Alfredo J. Artiles. He has been posting interviews pretty much monthly since the launch, so there’re a lot available for review. If one visits the DiveIn Website, she can check the archives for more free podcasts.
DR is a fine organization. I have been affiliated with the division pretty much since its inception. However, Dear Readers, you should know that I don’t get any kickbacks or perks because SET is promoting these products.
