Discipline without legal violations
What should special educators know about legal protections related to disciplinary actions?
The Council for Exceptional Children will provide a Webinar on 29 April 2026 entitled “Disciplining students with disabilities: Uncommonly serious errors made by teachers and administrators.” The presented for the session is Mitchell Yell, who is familiar. to readers of Special Education Today for his contributions to the community. Here is CEC’s description:
Live Webinar | Disciplining students with disabilities: Uncommonly serious errors made by teachers and administrators
Join Mitch Yell, PhD in his presentation, Disciplining students with disabilities: Uncommonly serious errors made by teachers and administrators. School administrators and teachers respond to disruptive or challenging behavior in a variety of ways. Although the US Supreme Court has held that the US Constitution provides protections for all students, students with disabilities have additional protections under IDEA and Section 504. The purpose of this presentation is to identify these few additional protections and to show that using discipline with students with disabilities is not as difficult as many believe.

The event is slated for 29 April 2026 at 4:00 PM (EDT; 8:00 PM GMT). The event is planned to last 60 minutes.
Registration is required. It is free for members of the Council for Exceptional Children and costs US $29 for non-members. The registration form is available on line.

Dr Yell is the best.
