Dear John—Letters from Angela—7
Would you be drepressed?
November 7, 1991
Dear John,
I am very sorry that I've lost touch with you because I've been through a lot in the past year since January 1991.
How are you doing? Well I'm doing better, but this past Janauary I've had another major depressive episode with agitation and hyperactivity, but I've been stablized now for 3 months which is great. After I recovered from the episode I've had in January, I've had 6 other episodes after those and my medication had to be adjusted each time. This is called rapid cycling. The doctor has it under control now. I am on 125 milligrams of the anti-depressant medication called Morpiamin. It really helps. I've been a lot calmer now and don't get as upset like I used to.
I've been out of work for six months because of this and also my company shut down because of lack of business and got transferred to another office, but did not last there because the pressure was too much. So right now since I'm more stablized, I am getting connected to the Department of Rehabilitation so they can get me a job at a less pressurized job like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. I'll let you know when I get the job.
My father has passed away this past August 2nd. He died of liver and lung cancer. He has not felt good for a year. We thought all along that he was suffering from depression and he had a complete physical this past May and discovered that he had cancer 3 weeks later May 28th and said he only had 6 months to a year, but he went really fast August 2nd which was a shocker to all of us. My sister in the board in care doesn't know yet, but I am not looking forward to telling her the news. I am still grieving over my dad a lot and I miss him very much, but I'm working through my grief.
Brian, my fiance and I had to put off the wedding because of all of this, but we still love each other very much and our love has gotten stronger. We are shooting for either May or August, 1992.
I've been exercising more. I've been swimming at the Y two times a week. I have also been attending the Manic Depression and Depression Support Group which meets every week. It's been help a lot.
Guess what! I am going back to the east coast for the holidays. I am going to New York City to see my relatives. My aunt and cousin I'm close to. I'll be leaving December 21st and stay until the 2nd of January. My relatives invited me. I am looking forward to this and get to spend New Years Eve in Times Square. In fact, on the 21st I'll be right near you guys because I have an hour layover at Washington, D.C. Dulles International Airport. I have to change planes because I'll be landing in LaGuardia Airport instead of Kennedy where I usually land at. My relatives find it easier to pick me up at LaGuardia because they are right near it.
So I have an hour layover in Washington, D.C. This is the 21st of December. If you are interested, I'll be on United flight #36. I'll be landing in 3:15 your time. I'll be leaving L.A. 7:30 a.m. You guys may be busy. Then around 4:30 I'll be leaving for New York. I may just probably call you from the airport.
I am very excited that I am going because I needed to get away for quite some time.
Well John that's all. What's been going on. Write back and keep in touch!
Love
Angela
