Cover art invitation
What scholarly journal is seeking submissions of art for the covers of the journal?
Since 1996 the cover of the Journal of Learning Disabilities, a respected scholarly publication, has displayed art work by individuals with learning disabilities. When Judy Voress and Lee Weiderholt redesigned the journal during Lee’s editorship, they changed from displaying the contents of the issue to featuring individual works on the cover. See the examples later in the post.
As of the time of this post, the JLD management is soliciting submissions for future covers. One may find a display advertisement regarding the opportunity on the backs of the paper versions of some academic journals (I have one from Beyond Behavior right by my keyboard as I type this); it explains who is eligible to submit works and how to do so. I’ve reproduced a copy of that ad (see the end of the post).
Regular readers will remember that I consider the arts (generally) to be important for students with disabilities. Education should not be all and only the 3 Rs. We educators should make sure that our kids are included in arts education. This ongoing opportunity from JLD to have one’s art work published; it provides a chance that I hope readers’ children will seize.
Flash of the old elections to SET subscriber Judy V. for assistance with this post and to Peggy Kipping of the Hammill Institute on Disabilities for providing the following images.
Glad they are bringing back the art. These days, I and I'd guess many others, access JLD electronically. Do you know whether the art will appear in some way online?
