C. Ulmer's continued advocacy
Can anyone keep up with the Special Books for Special Kids features about individuals with disabilities?
Christopher Ulmer, the former teacher who left his classroom to record interviews with individuals with disabilities, continued his publication of video demonstrations about the humanity of our kids and their families. The most recent instance of his efforts is an interview with Lilly, a 14-year-old who has a rare (unique?) genetic disorder. Here’s a link to the video about Lilly, “The Only Known Case of Her Genetic Disorder (And the Mom Who Saved Her Life)”:
Lilly has a brother named Luca identified as having autism as a toddler, and another younger brother who—although he doesn’t have disabilities—is described by his mother as “spicy.” The mother, April Perri, has a YouTube presence (as ThisPinkLifeILive) and one on Instagram (also asThisPinkLifeILive), so readers can learn more about her and her family.
Take a look back at some of the previous posts about Mr. Ulmer’s interviews. See one with Nick Smith, who has microcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism, and Sydney, who has a chromosome 18 detection disorder. Peruse a listing of the 100s (no joke) videos Mr. Ulmer has a presence on YouTube, of course, but readers can also consult his Web site at Special Books by Special Kids.
