C. Ullmer interviewed a boy with multiple disabilities
What might it be like raise a child who has substantial, multiple disabilities?
In an installment posted 16 April 2026, Chris Ullmer of Special Books for Special Kids (also known as “SBSK”), interviewed 8-year-old Cameron and his parents (and sister). As Cameron, who has genesis of the corpus collosum and deletions on chromosomes 2 and 8, is essentially non-verbal, the interview is mostly with the parents. And Cameron’s parents provide informative and disarmingly honest answers to questions about Cameron and the family’s relation with him. Here’s the video
There’s not a lot about special education in this edition of SBSK, but there is definitely plenty about understanding kids with disabilities and their families. Dear Readers who are parents—whether of children with or without disabilities—will hear frank expressions of familiar concerns. Educators will get additional glimpses of parental resilience in the face of near constant challenges or raising a child with disabilities—in this case multiple, significant disabilities.
Despite the fact that this interview focuses a lot on discussion with the parents, readers who are familiar with Mr. Ullmet’s video will still get to see him doing his shtick with the child. He’s in there, playing like Cameron’s high-five slaps are knocking him of a couch. There’s plenty of Mr. Ullmer treating the child like a real, human.
