Birding while disabled—2
What opportunities for birding are happening in 2026?
As Dear Readers of Special Education Today know, we flock to birding activities. And there are events pending, especially for May of 2026. Those who have been among the covey of readers looking for birds almost certainly know that the annual Big Day 2026 event is soon, and it is one the items on the list. Read on to learn about others (and, at the end, a few links to previous SET posts about birding)!

Blind Birder Bird-a-thon, 3-4 May 2026: Birdability’s second yearly event promoting opportunities for blind and partially sighted birders of any age, experience, or geographic area to get outdoors and find birds.
Global Big Day, 9 May 2026: The famous CornellLab event when bird observations are gathered from around Earth. In 2025, almost 74,000 observers identified over 8000 species and submitted 185,000 reports of their birding.
Birdability Week 2026, 19-25 October 2026: Birdability’s regular yearly fall event promoting opportunities for birding; there are schedule events for which one can register.
