2026 USA Special Olympics begins 20 June
Who's ready for a lot of people taking great risks and achieving great outcomes?
The 2026 edition of USA Special Olympics opens 20 June. Thousands of athletes coaches, volunteers, family members, and spectators will assemble at venues in Minnesota to engage in 16 different sports (including corn hole!) spread over a 7-day schedule. Some events will be broad cast on television.
To be sure, some advocates object to Special Olympics on the grounds of thee event segregating individuals with disabilities from their peers. I don’t see that as a problem. Indeed I see it as a celebration of differences. I applaud the organizers’ efforts to create and sustain special opportunities for individuals with disabilities to gather and have a good time. Party on!
